My 20 minute drive home took an hour and 15 minutes

Part of my drive home contains one of those interchanges where a two lane section of highway is used to access multiple on ramp / off ramps, which is to allow the main highway traffic to flow smoother. Well some genius in a Honda Pilot attempted to make a right hand exit from the left lane... DIRECTLY INTO THE SIDE OF A FREAKING SEMI TRAILER.

How.

How do you miss the 80 foot long, 17 foot tall bright white trailer next to you?

So they crash into the rear wheels of the trailer, which causes the car to spin out into another car, totaling both cars and disabling the rig, blocking both lanes of the interchange.

So not only did your incompetent driving cause damage to 3 vehicles and likely multiple injuries as ambulances (multiple) were on site, but your ignorant driving caused a back flow of traffic on 2 separate roadways for almost on hour while authorities cleared a section of the break down lane for other vehicles to pass.

There were lots of wrecks around town today for me as well.

One of my friends was in a large multi car pileup.

And I was 30 minutes late to work because of a police Chase shootout gone wrong...

Ouch.

Reminds me of a situation that happened over the summer. One big accident happened in my suburb/city, boom entire place goes into utter gridlock. Then multiple other accidents occur simultaneously. Every street was jammed with cars, nothing was moving. My fifteen minute or so commute turned into a two hour ordeal. Luckily, I wasn’t driving the car and I was on my way home.

The Police even issued a statement that nobody should leave their houses and drive unless they were having an emergency.

Kinja'd!!!

This happened here earlier this year. Woman drove up off ramp and then proceeded to turn directly into the side of a semi. SMOOTH.

At the time I couldn’t find any explanation, but looking it up now she was apparently suicidal. Luckily nobody was killed.

picture unrelated... but no, sadly, modern cars are too safe to let Darwin do his thing.

too true. I’ve seen my neighbors use their GPS to ‘go home’ every day after work. Like how can you not remember this.

Am I the only one who read the title, saw the header image, and thought TheEngineer was involved in that?

Because that means they don’t have to pay any attention to where they are while they sit in their expensive [badge snobbery goes here] big move-y thing that they bought specifically because it would tell them where to turn, and keep them from hitting almost all the other (inferior) move-y things on the move-y thing paths.

At least, if they could figure out how to use it...

Maybe they use TMC to avoid traffic jams?

I use my GPS to go home every day after work (and to many other easy destinations). Not because I don’t know the way, but because I don’t know which way will have the most horrible traffic. Picking the right route can easily save 10-15 minutes off my trip, and it is not always the same.

It would, for example, tell me to avoid the route that was blocked by a crashed semi.

They took the flame down years ago. It's in the museum next to the statue now.

actually, as it had ‘finished’ happening as I rolled up, no GPS could have helped that situation.
